LENR in 2019

We have returned after a hibernation period of 75 weeks.  Ecat.org was founded in 2011 to track the developments of LENR (low energy nuclear reactions) and specifically the headline-grabbing claims of Andrea Rossi and his E-Cat (“energy catalyzer”).  This site frankly lost interest in and ceased to post because of rather doubtful and disappointing progress in LENR and specifically, Rossi’s bitter fallout and litigation settlement with Industrial Heat.
A new year brings the fresh anticipation and prospect of key breakthroughs in LENR adoption and commercialization in 2019.  March 23, 2019, will mark the 30 year anniversary of Fleischmann and Pons infamous proclamation.  Since that press conference, uninterrupted testing and research has continued by dozens of groups worldwide, with companies like Brillouin Energy recently claiming to be on the path towards commercializing their technology.  We look forward to reporting on all legitimate LENR developments and help bring attention to this important and underfunded field.
While Rossi has made many suspect claims in the past, he has yet again made the news with a planned streaming demonstration of his latest product on January 31, 2019.  The full press release is below.
MIAMI (PRWEB) JANUARY 21, 2019
Leonardo Corporation is pleased to announce that it will be presenting the worldwide introduction of its E-Cat SK product, a revolutionary cost-efficient clean energy technology, in a live streaming broadcast on January 31, 2019.
The E-Cat operates on the basis of physical principles which allow for energy production at power densities far higher than with fossil fuels. No radioactive fuels are used, and no radioactive waste is produced. The E-Cat SK produces kilowatts of energy while consuming only grams of inexpensive and abundant fuel (hydrogen, nickel, lithium) over a period of six months. E-Cat reactions do not involve any chemical combustion, so no greenhouse gas emissions are produced.
The E-Cat’s inventor, Andrea Rossi states, “I am delighted to have arrived at the point where I can introduce an industrial product to the world. My goal has always been not only to demonstrate an important discovery in a laboratory, but also to implement it into useful products that can have important benefits for mankind. E-Cat technology will allow businesses to become more profitable through the reduction of their thermal energy costs, and at the same time they will be reducing negative environmental impacts.” Dr. Rossi has patented the E-Cat in the United States (US patent no. US 9,115,913 B1) and the patent has also been granted in all of Europe, China, Russia, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Australia, South Africa, and is pending in other countries.
The E-Cat SK is a product designed to be used in industrial settings where heat is required, ranging from simple space heating to applications where high temperatures are needed, including electricity generation.
Leonardo’s business model is based on delivering heat as a service. Leonardo retains ownership of the E-Cats and will install and remotely operate them. Customers pay for heat delivered at costs that will always be significantly lower (at least 20 percent lower) than the cost of any other energy source the customer may use.
The live broadcast will begin on January 31st at 9:00 a.m. US Eastern time at http://www.ecatskdemo.com. Live participants will be able to submit questions to Dr. Rossi who will answer them live during the presentation. Instructions on how to submit questions will be provided at the website above at the commencement of the presentation. The event will be recorded and be made available for later viewing.
Companies interested in discussing possible incorporation of E-Cat technology in their industrial operations are invited to contact Leonardo Corporation at [email protected]

Rossi vs. Industrial Heat Case Settled

Apparently the all-consuming Andrea Rossi vs. Darden and Industrial Heat, et al. case has been settled.  The terms will likely forever be under NDA as Rossi mentions in his blog.  We can only hope that LENR progress, on all fronts, will now resume with vigor..

Gennady:
The terms of the settlement will remain under NDA for ever, as per request of the Attorneys of both Parties.
Personally, I am glad to be free to return to work full time for my E-Cat.
I will never anymore talk about the issues of the litigation. They belong to the past. The war is over, now we must build a constructive future.
From now I return to talk with our Readers.
Warm Regards,
A.R.

Industrial Heat in Aggressive Pursuit of LENR

Another exhibit from the Rossi v. Darden case offers a revealing look at Industrial Heat and their activities over the past few years. IH has been aggressively pursuing LENR technology through acquisitions, patenting, funding and “grooming” partnerships with a myriad of LENR inventors and firms.
In an email dated March 4, 2016, Woodford Funds expresses clear disappointment in the coming announcement that IH was unable to announce successful testing of Andrea Rossi’s E-Cat technology as it was a “core element” in their initial investment of a reported £39 million.

Fortune Magazine Interviews Tom Darden

A prominent North Carolina investor is backing a new kind of fusion that operates at much lower temperatures than thought possible, which would make it easier to commercialize. So far the early results show promise.

Tom Darden is with Cherokee Investment Fund.  Under the trade name, Industrial Heat LLC, his group has invested over $10 million in Andrea Rossi’s E-Cat technology which makes use of LENR.

E-Cat Report Posted Online

The long-anticipated third party independent report on the E-Cat has been provided and Andrea Rossi has confirmed its uncut authenticity.
http://www.sifferkoll.se/sifferkoll/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/LuganoReportSubmit.pdf
Apparently a COP of 3.2-3.6 over a 32 day period and isotopic change in nickel and lithium was observed.
“In summary, the performance of the E-Cat reactor is remarkable. We have a device giving heat energy compatible with nuclear transformations, but it operates at low energy and gives neither nuclear radioactive waste nor emits radiation. From basic general knowledge in nuclear physics this should not be possible. Nevertheless we have to relate to the fact that the experimental results from our test show heat production beyond chemical burning, and that the E-Cat fuel undergoes nuclear transformations. It is certainly most unsatisfying that these results so far have no convincing theoretical explanation, but the experimental results cannot be dismissed or ignored just because of lack of theoretical understanding.”

The report is entitled “Observation of Abundant Heat Production From a Reactor Device and of Isotopic Changes in the Fuel”  and is written by Giuseppe Levi, Evelyn Foschi, Bo Höistad, Roland Pettersson, Lars Tegnér and Hanno Essén, all of whom also wrote an earlier third party report on the E-Cat.

E-Cat South Asia Tech Update

Press Release from Ecat Australia and Ecat South Asia – August 2013
TOMORROWS ENERGY, TODAY
Since we last wrote, there continues to be important developments. The rest of the world is waking up that L.E.N.R. is serious. A recent Forbes article emphasized the maturing of the technology.
And OilPrice.com journalist Brian Westenhaus thinks the industry may have reached the turning point and perhaps the last stages before widespread acceptance. This is further supported by an influx of universities in the US and afield that are now including LENR or Cold Fusion studies in their syllabus.
The 18th International Conference on Cold Fusion (ICCF-18) held last month also provided substantial details of the technology along with deepening understanding of the physics behind it. In practice no-one is yet able to match the COP that Rossi has attained: COP=6, but we hope that all parties do succeed because there is much need for more efficient and environmentally friendly energy sources.
Our focus has continued to be on working with interested parties, discussing their needs and recommending solutions. The following diagram shows the wide applicability of the Rossi E-Cat and Hot-Cat.

Many companies around the globe and in this region are starting to focus on co- and tri- generation, the situation where one heat source is used over and over again. To this end the actual effective COP can be much higher than 6, if one can re-use the heat. A typical co-generation use could be using the initial heat for a food manufacturing process, and the waste heat for a chilling/refrigeration process.
Consider a typical Co-Generation opportunity: Fruit and Veges industry.
Primary Application: Blanching. For this, typically they would be using grid electricity, or Gas. With the E-Cat they would enjoy a COP of 6 (i.e. for every unit of energy previously used, now they can consume just 1/6th of that energy, reducing their bill proportionately). Once used the energy they have consumed is typically wasted.
Secondary Application: By coupling the blanching process and its waste heat, to a chiller system, the company can convert this waste heat into chilling, allowing operation of cold rooms for holding vegetables, at almost no additional energy cost. Assuming a 70% efficiency on this leg, the company might be able to get an additional 50% re-use of the energy (allowing for inefficiencies).
Now the company may also consider that there is a third use for the same energy – output from the Chiller is hot water (approximately 50-70 degrees C). This is ideal for general use in bathrooms and kitchens for washing and cleaning.
Efficiency-comparison-1
Notice from the example table above, that there is substantial improvement of the facility’s energy use. Using the E-Cat, the company may be able to achieve upwards of 10 times the value of the input energy. (note this is a generalized example. Engineers will be able to estimate specific applications which depend on environmental conditions and other factors).

Cold Fusion and the Energy Crisis

A recent article by Dr. Stoyan Sarg recaps all the potential benefits and hurdles LENR has faced in the last quarter century:

While the year 2011 will be remembered for the remarkable progress in cold fusion achieved in Italy and more particularly by the E-cat reactors of Andrea Rossi, the year 2012 will be remembered for the slow progress of its recognition by the mainstream establishments.

A Cold Shoulder to Cold Fusion

The vast majority of the people in the world have never heard of Cold Fusion, or LENR, as it is now popularly called. The study of LENR was nearly buried, but positive experiments have continued twenty years after Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann’s announcement in 1989. As seen below, the late Eugene Mallove, a brilliant scientist and cold fusion expert, tells of how “arrogant physics” and the efforts of negative and close-minded hot fusion advocates led to the public smear campaign against LENR. Thankfully, the honorable efforts of Mallove and others have continued and now we appear to be close to legitimizing their work.
Dr. Mallove prophetically told in a 1994 Good Morning America interview, the very first cold fusion application will be “a home heating unit, and followed very quickly thereafter will be a small electrical generator.” Could this moment be upon us with the commercialization of Rossi’s E-Cat? If so, the world will owe a debt of gratitude to brave individuals like Eugene Mallove who remained steadfast in light of tremendous efforts to destroy an idea.
